Studio Subject

ARCH10001 Foundations of Design: Representation

In this module, I was introduced to the relationship between the idea of pattern and surface. The studio tasked us to manipulate topography as a surface to see how both pattern and surface interact. I looked into digital and physical fabrication, experimented with manipulating surfaces and to distort them to its limits.

Final pattern and surface model.

Modules used for fabrication.

I used two simple pyramid modules for my custom panel, its simplicity allows me to develop my terrain surface in a complex manner. The pyramids highlights the shape and form of the terrain by incorporating a mix of height differences which represents a mountain landscape. To create a higher contrast between the height levels of my terrain, around the dip "valley" of my terrain surface, the "valley slopes" are formed by the continuous rise in height of pyramids.

Final model for fabrication.
