Event

HKGBC "My Green Space" Architecture Student Competition

The theme of the competition is to build a better place for the people and the environment through having good health and well-being.

Inspired by three of my favourite precedents, ReGen Village by EFFEKT, Oceanix City by Bjarke Ingels Group and Urban Village Project by SPACE10 & EFFEKT, I created my own adaptation of what the green building or village of the future should or could be.

In my submission, I created an "eco village", an off-grid modular building proposal which is not just green but also tackles other issues having impact on individual's overall health and well-being.

I believe the future "eco village" should be self-sufficient, resilient and also to put forward solutions that could help to tackle global issues in today's society, such as poverty, rising sea levels, land shortage and reduction of arable land, etc.

I received a merit award for my Eco Islands submission proposal.

Eco Islands aims to build a better place for the people and the environment by solving the current world issues that impact our health and wellbeing.

Eco Islands encourage diversity as well as equality. Therefore, residential islands consist of 8 dwelling types. The purpose is to create a diverse home ownership to allow for individuals from all backgrounds to be able to live on the Eco Islands.

Eco Islands uses a system or network that enhances the island's resilience by reducing the reliance on the city's mains water supply, city grid and local merchandises. The Eco Islands does this by reusing and recycling the substances produced daily at the islands.

When navigating around the different islands in the civic system, walking or cycling would take slightly longer. A solution to this would be to use Smart EV's. Drones are used to deliver mail, food and medicine to balconies. By automating this process, it reduces traffic around communal areas and is especially effective during a pandemic.

On the Residential Islands, all building roofs are maximised so that it can harvest solar power and to shade the residents from the sun. Buildings are kept low and are shaped like the Mercedes logo so that loads remain balanced and to keep the platform's centre of gravity buoyant.
